What is the cost to own a 1997 Mercedes sl600 (r129)?

I have been considering a 1997 sl600 with about 80k miles on it. I can afford the car, but since it is an older car and pretty much an exotic, it probably requires expensive maintenance. I have heard that the sl600 is more expensive to maintain, than the other models of the r129 series because of the v12, but I would like to have an estimate of the cost. If anyone has had experience with an r129 sl600 or knows someone who has one please help. Also, any comments about maintenance costs of any r129 mercedes sl (sl500 or sl320) are greatly appreciated.

My suggestion to you is stay away from that model unless you have money to burn. They are expensive to maintain.
Youd be better off with an S500 if you ask me. But then again anything mercedes is expensive.
Expect some heavy repair bills with the age and mileage.

No one can tell you how expensive it will be as no one knows what type of shape it's currently in nor how well it was maintained by the previous owner(s).

What I can tell you is the M120 V12 engine is shoe-horned into the R129 chassis making it rather difficult to work on if necessary. Many systems (but notably the convertible top function and the suspension) are also hydraulic and can be very expensive to repair if something does go wrong.
